DIY Home Decorating Ideas – Spruce Up Your Space One Step At A Time

Home decorating ideas and re-doing my ‘space’ are kind of on my mind lately. Even though it’s still pretty chilly out, spring is right around the corner. I know! Where the heck does the time go, right? With that comes spring cleaning, which leads to sprucing up that space you’ve been meaning to take out o the 1980’s Better Homes & Garden magazine look. Or is that just me?

There’s literally tons of places to get super home decorating ideas on Pinterest and even stacks of magazines, sitting in the Dr’s office with the kiddos. But, where do you start? That’s what I wanted to know. So, I took to the streets internet and searched my way around all those awesome ideas!

Home Decorating Ideas – A Piece Here, A Bit There

Like in that gorg bedroom above, there’s really great pieces. The super cozy linens are from Shabby Chic, and I’m totally buying them! But in my head, I think, I must run out, grab all the cutesy finds and throw a room together. Not so! From everything I’ve been reading,  a room should not be finished in one fell swoop. In this economy it’s kind of impossible anyways, right? Plus, a truly unique room all your own looks best when it grows over time as you add to it. One of the best ways to make a room come together is to find a few pieces you really love and then add some DIY crafts for cheaper ways to accessorize! I’m a huge (HUGE!) fan of Shabby Chic for example. And, I really love those wreaths on the wall above the bed. I found a great blog that has a shabby chic wreath DIY tutorial and rather than run out and spend a small fortune on them, I’m planning that for next weekend!

Ok, so we have a general theme picked and know we should take some baby steps getting from big old home decorating ideas to the final TA-DA! But, at the same time, all want our rooms to look as chic as possible from the get go, right? Let’s look at a few simple and easy home decorating ideas to keep the flow fresh and popping but going slow…

I love flowers! And they always make a room feel inviting and warm. But, buying and replacing fresh flowers is seriously so costly! Over at Sew Sweet Stitches, I found a great flower craft tutorial to keep things pretty and not pricey! Super cute, right? Also, if you can find a print, poster or even a favorite photograph and add that as an accent, you’ll be adding a piece at a time with very little cost! Try finding a simple wooden frame at your local Target, Michael’s or even Ikea. Give it a quick coat of  simple white or off white paint and lightly sanding some areas for a nice shabby chic feel and pop a few of those on the walls clustered in groups.

Whatever your style is, (not shabby chic??) just remember that adding all the great details to your room takes time.  And by choosing all the items to go with your home decorating ideas bit by bit your room (and home) will tell the story of you! All those great family trips you take? Buy one thing for whatever room you’re decorating each time you travel. They don’t have to be huge pieces or very expensive either! Just a little something to say ‘We were here’ and incorporate it into your style! After some time, you’ll look around and see the beautiful pieces remind you of all the places you’ve been and the fond memories you’ve made.

I hope I’ve given you some super home decorating ideas and how to pull it all together to create a place and space you truly love! Now tell me, what’s your style and how are you going to make that come alive?

Love these ideas! While my husband isn’t crazy on more soft/feminine designs, I’m looking for great ways to make my daughter’s room a bit more girly.

    I love these ideas!
I like to change things up quite often and I get tired of things pretty easy, so it’s nice to see some less expensive ideas that I can utilize without going broke.
    Thanks!

I love your ideas. I need to focus on one thing at a time as you suggested. I think that’s why nothing ever gets done around here, I always overwhelm myself then nada gets done!
