Two Happy Kids – How Frozen Food Made Me The Best Parent Ever

Yes! That totally happened! I was called ‘The Best Parent Ever’. Ok, it only lasted for the night and I got a bit of help from the frozen food aisle, but I’ll take what I can get! It started with that awesome lasagna, which makes for super easy meals and ended with ice cream and a movie night sleep-over for Ethan. Happy kids, happy me!

Let’s start from the beginning. Since Ethan’s only 6, he doesn’t really do the ‘sleep-over’ thing all that often yet. Our 12 yr old nephew Mason just moved to town and his parents were going out for the evening. We of course said he could come hang out with us for the night and Ethan decided to make it an official boy’s night sleep-over. Since Mason is older and ‘a cool kid’, Ethan wanted to impress him and make sure we had all his favorites so he’d come back for more sleep-over, boy fun nights. We’d have to start with his favorite dinner – lasagna. Super. I did not want to be stuck in the kitchen making lasagna and leave the boys wandering around the house getting into whatever shenanigans boys get into when left to their own devices. I needed some help.

Smart & Final Frozen Food

Frozen Food Made Me The Best Parent Ever!

I knew there’s a great sale going on at at Smart & Final for their Frozen Food Month special and decided to put it to good use! You spend $40 on your purchase of qualifying frozen food items, and you receive a $10 coupon to use the next time you shop. Just so happens that Stouffer’s Lasagna was on that list. Score! Since our boy’s sleep-over night had to include ice cream and a movie, I lucked into Dreyer’s Ice Cream being on the list as well. And, even I got a little something-something from this frozen food sale too! My absolute favorites… TGI Friday’s! This whole sleep-over thing was working our pretty well for me after all!

Frozen Food Saved Me

After completely tearing up the house doing ‘boy stuff’ (see photo above for messy, torn up proof) I decided it was high time to send them outside to play. I popped the lasagna in the oven and we headed out the front door so they could turn our cul-de-sac into a magical land where they were knights and dragons needed slaying to save the fair princess Haley. (coincidence the cute little girl next door is named Haley? I think not!) Since it was 85* outside here in Vegas, I grabbed my latest book of the month to get a few chapters in and soaked up some rays of sun watching my super heroes in action. Just as the fair princess Haley was saved from a life of capture and fire-breathing dragon breath by our good knights, the lasagna was done and all were starving in the magical land. Seems our talented knights are also experts at helping make some homemade Texas style toast and salad too! We sat down at the messy ‘Round Table’ and enjoyed our feast.

Smart & Final Frozen Food

After a quick bath where my hard working knights washed the dirt off from the magical kingdom, we all settled onto the couch for some well earned ice cream and a movie! Ethan came over, gave me a big hug and whispered in my ear a nice ‘thank you’ for making sure our boy’s only sleep-over was perfect and fun. And, I secretly planned to head back to Smart & Final before Frozen Food Month sales end to have plenty of easy meals on hand for the next go-round in the magical kingdom. And that my friends is how frozen food made me the best parent ever!

Smart and Final Frozen FoodOh, don’t fret my dear busy families in need of a plan! My kids love Stouffer’s lasagna too. I think they like it as much as the more complicated meals I prepare so this is the way to go! 🙂

It’s true. Quick & easy food does make you the best parent ever. It’s amazing how much less stressed we are when we don’t have to worry about cooking elaborate meals and our kids feel it! I wish we had a smart & final around here. I hate grocery shopping in NC

Lasagna and ice cream? Will you be my mommy too?

That is one of my fave ice creams EVER! I love it! Lasagna? You are the best mom ever and that was a great sleep over. I bet they both enjoyed it immensely. I am a cook from scratch mom, but sometimes you just really need a go-to meal, because you can’t do everything all the time. It’s good to have brands you can trust in the freezer aisle at the local supermarket!
